Displaced Voter Information

If you are a registered voter of Louisiana who has been displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina or Rita, you are still eligible to vote in your home parish if you have not registered to vote in another parish or state.

There are presently three ways to vote in Louisiana: (1) absentee by mail ballot (http://www.sec.state.la.us/elections/MISC/request_absentee_ballot_DISPLACED.pdf), (2) early voting in person in the Registrar of Voters office six to twelve days before an election, and (3) in person at the polling place on Election Day.

For more information on how to check your current registration status, register to vote, or vote, please contact your home parish Registrar of Voters office or the Louisiana Secretary of State Elections Division by email at elections@sos.louisiana.gov  or at 1-800-883-2805.

If you register to vote in another parish or state, your voting rights will be affected in your home parish. For more information, please contact your home parish Registrar of Voters (http://www.sos.louisiana.gov/elections/elect-registrars.htm) , or contact the Secretary of State Elections Division at 1-800-883-2805.

Election Protection Volunteer Training

October 11, 2008

The NBA has partnered with the  Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law  (the architect and legal lead of the Election Protection coalition) in an effort to help ensure that all Americans have equal access to the ballot.

This non-partisan comprehensive program helps guide voters through the voting process, from registration, through Election Day and beyond.  Legal volunteers help ensure that millions of all eligible voters are able to vote and have their vote counted. While Election Protection is available to all voters across the country, it targets communities traditionally disenfranchised, including African-Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and other racially and ethnically diverse communities, the elderly, young people, low-income and disabled individuals.

We must ensure that our members have been trained and are able to play key roles at the local committee level.  To ensure that all of our legal volunteers are prepared for the task ahead,  the Lawyers' Committee For Civil Rights Under Law has arranged for a one time special "Leadership Training" for you and other NBA leaders and members.  As noted in the October 2, 2008 letter to regarding our Election Protection initiative, the training will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2008.  It will begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at approximately 3:00 p.m. E.S.T.  While trainings are ongoing throughout the country, this online training  is a special opportunity to provide you with the required training in the most convenient way possible--through the convenience of the internet.

Instructions for accessing the training are as follows:
